UK visit for Afghan teaching staff
Teaching in Afghanistan is proving challenging at the moment, as the country recovers from its years under Taleban rule.
However, help has been offered in the shape of UK schools, some of which are due to be twinning with educational institutions in the war-torn country next year.
According to the Times Educational Supplement, 12 Afghan teachers have visited schools around the UK to discuss the partnership possibility.
Schools in Afghanistan remain hugely under-resourced, although since the overthrow of the Taleban, girls are now allowed to attend school and once banned subjects such as English and science have been restored.
One of the schools the teachers visited was Norbury Primary in north-west London.
"This partnership should give the children a real sense of identity and purpose," said its headteacher Julia Drozdowskij.
In related news, many schools have been burnt down in Afghanistan in recent months. As a result, Canada is launching a school-building project in the country.
