Teaching profession recognised with awards
Teachers around the UK are set to be awarded in a number of special ceremonies held in their honour.
As part of the annual Teaching Awards, 30 teachers have been shortlisted for a range of awards such as secondary school teacher of the year, secondary school headteacher of the year, special needs teacher of the year and governor of the year.
Those who have shown outstanding achievements in their field will be given the Plato prize in 13 ceremonies throughout the UK next month.
Suffolk and Essex this year sees seven teachers recognised in their areas, reports the And 2008 sees seven teachers from Suffolk and Essex up for an award, according to the East Anglian Daily Times.
Caroline Evans, Awards chief executive, told the paper: "Society needs to recognise their contribution and that teaching is a fulfilling career. The Teaching Awards is a great way to say thank you and we are proud to recognise such excellence and passion."
This year will mark the tenth anniversary of the awards and will include the presentation of a new prize - the General Teaching Council Award for Excellence in Professional Development.
