Teachers work with parents to improve pupils' behaviour
Teachers at a north London school have spoken about the benefits of working with parents to improve the behaviour of pupils.
Speaking to the Times Educational Supplement Magazine, deputy head of the Compton School in Finchley Louise Taylor, said parent support groups are helping to better standards.
When letters home and parents' evenings were not having the desired effect, the school decided to invite relatives into the school.
Although parents of the pupils causing the most concern were specifically targeted, others were welcome to attend.
Ms Taylor has now designed a structured programme to help them discuss strategies to deal with the children.
One of the parents who attends the support group, Jeanette Evans, told the publication: "I have always felt intimidated by teachers, but through the group got to know Louise and other teachers better. It's helped me feel more at ease with them."
According to the school's website, those who have attended the sessions have noted that they have made them feel better equipped to tackle issues that arise with their children.
