Shrewsbury college receives Ofsted praise

Ofsted has awarded Shrewsbury Sixth Form College a "good" grade in its latest report, which may interest those looking for teaching vacancies in the area.

Inspectors described the college as being "enjoyable, busy and industrious" and praised its wide-ranging curriculum and "outstanding" support for students, reports the Shropshire Star.

Achievement and standards are recognised in the reports, and the students' progress compared to their prior attainment is also singled out.

While the college was told to improve attendance and punctuality, it was commended for listening to the student voice.

Robert Bland, chairman of governors, said: "I am delighted the quality of teaching and learning has been recognised.

"Particularly pleasing is that the inspectors noted the outstanding support for individual students throughout the college."

Also noted by Ofsted is the level of extra-curricular activities offered by the college, in particular its frequent drama and music productions.

Shrewsbury Sixth Form College teaches around 1,200 student and states that it aims to create a bridge between education and employment.
