Parents 'want toddlers' teachers to have EYP status'
The majority of parents who send their children to early learning facilities expect teachers to be equipped with Early Years Professional Status, it has emerged.
According to research conducted by the Children's Workforce Development Council (CWDC), 70 per cent of parents believe this is necessary.
And 39 per cent stated they want the person who has responsibility for their child's development to hold the qualification.
The study revealed that 90 per cent of parents are happy with new proposals put forward by the government.
These include plans to have an Early Years Professional (EYP) in every appropriate setting by 2015, building on the 1,700 that are currently in place across the country.
"As this figure grows, so too will parents' awareness and expectations looking to an Early Years Professional who can play a key role in leading their child's development at this vital stage," said national development manager for early years at CWDC Thom Crabbe.
Many EYPs are leaving their job to opt for another career, Sheila Scales of the Department for Children, Schools and Families noted last month.
