NUT calls for more computer training
The National Union of Teachers (NUT) has called for teachers to attend technology training courses, as pupils develop more technological knowledge.
Christine Blower, acting general secretary of the NUT, claimed that pupils' knowledge of computers could exceed that of their teachers and revealed that the union runs course to help with this.
"Teachers have struggled to keep up with children technologically and they do need additional training," she noted, suggesting that those looking for teacher jobs ensure they have good computer skills.
Courses run by the NUT are held at basic and intermediate levels and show teachers how to use the various applications that are commonly used.
Ms Blower also commented that the courses are popular with teachers and receive government funding from the Union Learning Fund.
Becta, the government partner for the delivery of information and communications technology, is running the Next Generation Learning campaign to increase the use of technology in UK schools.
The organisation believes that information technology can help teachers deliver a higher standard of education, while equipping pupils with skills they will need in the workplace.
