English teaching praised by Ofsted as "outstanding"
The English teaching standards at a Watford primary school have won high praise from the school inspectorate.
Following a visit to the school, Ofsted rated the lessons at Laurance Haines Primary School as "outstanding", reports the Watford Observer.
Teachers were commended for the way they dealt with the pupils, seventy per cent of whom had little or no grasp of English before they arrived at the school.
Special assistance from support and bilingual assistants is given to these children when they first arrive.
A total of 30 languages are spoken by pupils at Laurance Haines, including Portuguese, Italian, Spanish and French.
Furthermore, the head and deputy head team of Barbara Ridyard and Rebecca Mitchell gained an honourable mention in the report for providing "excellent leadership".
Ms Mitchell told the paper: "Everybody has worked very hard and very well together. We've got a strong team. We're very lucky to have staff who go that extra mile and want them to do well."
Attleborough High School also recently received praise for its outstanding progress in maths teaching, reports Wymondham and Attleborough Mercury.
