Bicycle fun for South Shields teachers
The journey to school became slightly more tiring for a group of South Shields teachers when they took part in a cycling challenge.
According to the Shield Gazette, Hadrian Primary School staff set out to ride the distance they would cover if they crossed the African continent, from Cairo to Cape Town.
The initiative was part of the Bike It project, undertaken by pupils and teachers across the UK.
And this Hadrian managed to take third place in the competition.
"It has been a great way for staff to get fit. We need another cycle shelter now and our school council has contacted the council to ask for help," headteacher Scott Brown told the paper.
Sustainable transport charity Sustrans organised the bike ride. It aims to ensure that more people are benefiting the environment and their health through the way in which they travel.
