African honour bestowed on English headteacher
When David Rowsell took a few days off teaching to head to Ghana, little did he know he would return to England as an African chief.
But this is exactly what happened to the headteacher of All Saints School in Doncaster, when he visited the country to deliver computer equipment to a school, reports the Star.
Specially selected pupils and teachers from All Saints accompanied Mr Rowsell on the trip.
However, it was the head who gained the biggest honour, when he was honoured in a special ceremony that made him Chief Angu Keba.
"They made me Progress Chief of Tema Newtown because of the work we've done, to say how grateful they are. So technically I'm an African chief," Mr Rowsell told the paper.
He praised the work done by both pupils and teachers on the trip - IT teacher Mark Ibeertson was on hand to install all the computer equipment, which put the school online for the first time.
Last month Malawi welcomed Glasgow-based teacher Robert McGoldrick as part of a scheme to help with educational development, the BBC reported.
