Teaching Welsh school staff how to combat homophobia
Staff in Welsh schools will be given special training sessions addressing the issue of bullying in schools due to sexual orientation.
Teachers, students and other staff will have "game-show style workshops and theatre performances", to help them tackle instances of homophobia, reports Pink News
Sessions have been organised by Safer Wales and the LGBT Excellence Centre Wales, in response to a recent study that found that 79 per cent of 250 Welsh students surveyed said to be openly gay in their school would not be safe.
"A way to stop bullying is for all students and staff in schools to make a stand against this commonly accepted abuse," managing director of the LGBT Excellence Centre Wales Federico Podeschi told the news source.
This follows a suggestion earlier this month by the Trades Union Congress, that teaching about lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality should be on the national curriculum.
