Teachers 'confident' to deal with bad behaviour
The majority of new teachers feel very confident about dealing with bad behaviour in the classroom following their training, said the Training and Development Agency for Schools.
As spokesperson for the organisation noted that a recent survey revealed that 95 per cent of new teachers "felt their training had equipped them to establish a good standard of behaviour in the classroom".
Furthermore, the current generation of teachers has been rated as the "best ever" by Ofsted inspectors, he noted, adding that "teaching standards have never been higher".
The spokesperson also denied comments made recently by the newly resigned chief executive of the Independent Schools Council Chris Parry, who suggested that people are deterred from entering the teaching profession due to violence in schools.
A skills gap in a number of "felt their training had equipped them to establish a good standard of behaviour in the classroom".
The lack of applicants to train to be a teacher in a number of fields including maths, English, ICT, physics and geography has led to an urgent need for staff in these subjects in England, according to figures from February's Education Data Surveys.
