New Foundation Phase training facility for Welsh teachers

A purpose-built classroom has been designed for the use of trainee early years teachers in Wales.

According to the Western Mail, it will give the future teachers the chance to learn about the new Foundation Phase curriculum in a hands-on environment.

The fully-equipped facility comes complete with an abundance of cuddly toys and books, so the trainees can observe how younger children are taught.

Foundation Phase tutors Carys Richards and Helen Lewis set-up the unique teaching environment within a disused office space at Trinity College in Carmathen.

Ms Richards told the paper: "Trainees have a series of tasks to complete, but the emphasis is on observation and reflection, and the opportunity to discuss provision."

The deadline for schools' implementation of the new early years' curriculum has been extended by a year to four years, education minister Jane Hutt announced earlier this month.
