More PE training for primary teachers, urge experts
Extra training must be provided to help primary school teachers take physical education (lessons), it has been argued.
This is vital if Great Britain's Olympic success is to be repeated in four years in London, the chief executive of the Association for Physical Education has stated, reports the Times Educational Supplement.
Margaret Talbot believes it is a "national scandal" that primary teachers have not been equipped with the proper skills to teach PE adequately to their pupils.
This view has been echoed by chief executive of Youth Sport Trust Steve Grainger, who also called on the relevant organisations to ensure that teacher training for PE is improved.
He said: "The progress that schools have made over the last four years has been significant. But the next four are going to be the best we have ever had in sport and schools should seize the opportunity."
The record-breaking haul of medals earned by Great Britain this year so far includes 18 golds, 12 silvers and 11 bronzes.
