Cricket coaching course for Notts teachers
Teachers in Nottinghamshire are to receive a new cricket training programme, which may interest those seeking a teaching vacancy in the region.
Funding from PKF, sponsors of Nottingham cricket team, and the government-funded Sportsmatch will be used to coach teachers in the use of Kwik Cricket equipment, reports the Chad newspaper.
The training comes in efforts to encourage more children to take up the game and will see teachers learning how to hold coaching sessions and develop batting, bowling and fielding drills.
Paul Ellis, partner with accounting firm PKF, told the paper: "Schools often provide the first opportunity for children to play cricket and this was an excellent way for us to help teachers to promote the game."
The training was welcomed by Chris Ballard, school sport partnership development manager of one of the schools taking part, who said that the scheme would help improve quality of PE in schools.
In related news, England women's cricket captain Charlotte Edwards has been coaching at a Stevenage school to encourage more girls to enter the sport, reports the Comet.
