LMC wins green award
A college which has taken significant action in environmental and social responsibility has been recognised by the Higher Education Environmental Performance Improvement (HEEPI) project.
Lancaster and Morecambe College (LMC) received the Colleges and Smaller Institutions' 'Green Gown' for showing that it is committed to sustainability, reports empra.co.uk.
Members of the college's sustainability forum revealed that they have further work planned to improve the institution, including building bike shelters.
The forum will also organise events, including Bike2Work week, World Environment Week and a conference to share sustainability idea with other colleges.
David Wood, principal of LMC, commented: "Winning the Green Gown Award is a great achievement for the college.
"The overall outcome is a sector leading college where staff and students are working responsibly together to create a sustainable and hugely rewarding learning culture."
He also reaffirmed the college's long-term commitment to environmental responsibility and said that it was "beneficial" to staff and students.
The HEEPI project aims to improve the environmental performance of the UK's colleges and universities and provides information to institutions looking to become more sustainable.
