GCSE papers missing

An exam board will have to re-set a series of GCSE exams after a batch was stolen, which may interest those involved in teaching.

The AQA exam board was forced to make the changes after a van contained a batch of the papers was taken in Hertfordshire, reports the BBC.

Some 40 exams in 15 subjects, due to be sat over the next few weeks, will have to be re-written, in case copies of the stolen papers have been given or sold to pupils.

Despite this, AQA says it is confident that the exams will proceed as scheduled.

A spokesperson for the exam board told the news provider: "Incidents like this are extremely rare. However, AQA takes all such cases very seriously.

"Protecting the integrity of our examinations and the interests of all candidates taking those examinations are our paramount concerns."

The van and some of the exam papers were later recovered near Borehamwood, although others were missing.

AQA is the largest of England's three exam boards and awards 51 per cent of GCSEs and 43 per cent of A-levels.
