Ugandan school partnership strengthened by teachers

Two Northumberland schools have sent a group of teachers to a school in Africa to build on links established four years ago.

Marl Russell, Mark Phillips and Jane Williams of Tweedmouth Middle School, along with Prior Park First School's Pat Wilson and Wendy Armstrong, visited Kalengeija Primary School.

Located in the Bulisa district of western Uganda, a partnership was developed with this school when Mr Russell made his first of what were to become annual visits in 2004.

Since then, children at the schools have been exchanging tips for how to have fun at playtime.

"The first part of this was a great success and the Ugandan children picked up the games very quickly and delighted in showing us their games as well," Mr Russell told the paper.

Rachel Robinson, teacher at Beneden Primary School, visited Malawi's Mgosa Primary School last month to explore the possibility of twinning the two schools, reported the Kent & Sussex Courier.
