Review into national curriculum due to begin
A review into the national curriculum will this week begin in parliament.
Members of The Children, Schools and Families Select Committee are due to hear evidence from a range of sources to assess whether the current curriculum should be adjusted.
In the first oral evidence session tomorrow, politicians will hear from those including the director of curriculum at the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority, Mick Waters.
Formal written evidence has also been submitted by a number of teaching unions including the National Union of Teachers and the Association of Teachers and Lecturers.
MPs will consider the possibility of an alternative curriculum framework, as well as assessing whether the current curriculum is 'fit for purpose'.
They will also look at arguments for and against having a national curriculum at all.
Last month the committee published a report suggesting that excessive testing and focus on targets in schools is damaging the education system and compromising teaching.
