New Ofsted targets may cover pregnancy rates and drug use
Ofsted is set to add 18 new targets concerned with children's happiness to school reports, which may interest those seeking head teacher vacancies.
The new targets would cover areas such bullying, neglect and obesity and are being introduced by the education watchdog to improve pupil's health and wellbeing.
However, teaching unions have criticised the new proposals, which also obligate schools to keep information on pupil's drug problems, teenage pregnancy rates and criminal records.
Mick Brookes, general secretary of the National Association of Head Teachers, told the Guardian: "We are concerned about the extent to which schools are held accountable for all the ills of society. It's become quite ridiculous."
He also said pointed out that the information could not be realistically used by the Department for Children, Schools and Families to create a "league table of happiness".
On its website, Ofsted states that it aims to raise aspirations and increase standards of "educational, economic and social well-being".
