See Birmingham through the eyes of its children
Competition asks local school children to show what Birmingham means to them.
London, UK 5 October 2007 In a Birmingham wide schools' competition, local pupils from all of the area's 872 schools are being asked to show 'what Birmingham means to them'.
The competition, run by education recruitment specialists, Select Education, is a unique chance to gain a child's eye view of Birmingham, from children of all backgrounds and walks of life.
Whether it's the bustling atmosphere of the Bullring or the tranquillity of one of Birmingham's many parks, competition entrants will be asked to depict their own interpretation of their city through the mediums of literature, art, photography or media.
Winners and runners up in each category will be invited to the awards ceremony in November, along with teachers and parents. The awards ceremony will be held at the heart of the city in the prestigious Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, where the winners can see their work displayed on the evening.
Peter Flannery, MD, Select Education comments on the competition: 'It is great to be able to offer the children of Birmingham the chance to show what their home town means to them. We anticipate a vast range of entries as the topic is so personal and can be interpreted in a number of ways. It will also allow the children to take a closer look at their surroundings and instil a greater sense of pride'.
Schools can enter one of three categories - primary, secondary and SEN. The competition is also designed to support curriculum subjects including History, Geography, Citizenship, Art, English and ICT, including lesson plans when schools register for the competition.
'What Birmingham Means to Me' will run throughout the autumn term, with a closing date for entries of 19th October. The winning entries will be announced at the awards evening on 21st November.
