Schools build 1.6 mile long 'hand daisy chain' for Children In Need

'1,474 Terry Wogans' lend a charitable hand!
13,481 hands make light work for Children in Need in Select Education's national initiative to build a 'hand daisy chain' to raise money for the charity reaching the equivalent height of 1,474 Terry Wogans.
Special Educational Needs, primary and nursery schools across the nation have decorated handprints, which today contributed to the display of the 'hand daisy chain' on London's Millennium Bridge. At its full length the chain reaches 1.68 miles and has so far raised 11,000... and counting, whilst teaching children the value of lending their neighbours a helping hand.
The length of the 'hand daisy chain' is equivalent to:
- 1,474 Terry Wogans
- 52 BBC Television Centres
- 30 Football pitches
- 28 Big Bens
- 263 double-decker buses
- Two and a half Snowdons
- Two Ben Nevis
Peter Flannery, managing director of Select Education said: 'The participation and enthusiasm from schools has been astounding! So much so that next year we intend to open the project up to every primary school in the country to create a Guinness World Record 'hand daisy chain'. We hope to raise thousands more pounds for Children In Need and continue to reinforce the message to children of helping those around us.'

'By making a donation to Children in Need, pupils from across the country were given the chance to contribute to the chain by decorating a helping hand template with paint, tissues, crayons, pens, pasta, buttons or whatever else their imagination dreamt up.'
'As we at Select Education are involved with helping thousands of schools and nurseries, we wanted the children to have the opportunity to give a helping hand to those who may not have the same opportunities as they do.'
