Hull Primary Schools: Putting Fire Safety First With Select Education

Education recruitment specialists team up with Humberside Fire and Rescue in poster competition
Hull, 16th October 2006 As part of its ongoing commitment to Hull schools and the local community, Select Education's Hull office is working closely with Humberside Fire and Rescue, Hull City Council, Humberside Police and The Community Wardens through the Think Fab' Fireworks and Bonfire campaign, being launched today to once again raise important safety messages in the run up to Guy Fawkes Night on the 5th November.
Under this initiative, Select Education and Humberside Fire and Rescue Service have been working closely together on a fire safety competition open to all primary schools in Hull, which asks children to design a poster highlighting the associated dangers of the bonfire night.
Siobhan Murphy, Primary and SEN Education Consultant at Select Education's Hull Office comments: 'We want to encourage children to enjoy bonfire night responsibly. What is meant to be a fun time can be quite the opposite if people aren't aware of proper fire safety measures. By partnering with Humberside Fire and Rescue on this competition, we're helping children to learn and have a good time. Hopefully they'll be able to pass on what they've learnt to others too!'
The three winners of first, second and third place in the competition will be invited to Clough Road fire station to receive their prize and the overall winning poster will be printed and distributed across the city for all to see, including being displayed on Hull's giant TV screens in the city centre. In addition, it will be used to advertise next year's competition to other schools.
