Advice for Teachers Working for Select Education

The following aims to give advice to candidates in connection with any assignments undertaken with Select Education.

Your availability

To enable us to find you suitable assignments it is vital that every candidate maintains regular contact with their local office. Please aim to let us know of your availability as early as possible. We will call you as soon as a suitable role becomes available and in turn we ask you, in turn, to call us to let us know your availability.

If, while you are at a school, you arrange additional work dates please call us to let us know as soon as you can so that we can update your availability profile.

If you are unable to fulfil an assignment due to illness, it is important that you call us as soon as possible as we may need to find a replacement for the role. Please call your local office where a consultant will be available until 10pm every day and throughout weekends to speak to you personally. At all other times, please leave a message on the answering machine.

Arriving for a new assignment

Prior to your assignment, your education consultant will have provided you with all relevant details regarding the school you are due to teach in. Please plan your route carefully to avoid heavy traffic or, if you are using public transport, make sure you are aware of the relevant bus or train times.

You should aim to arrive at school at 30 minutes prior to the start time to allow sufficient time for you to meet your colleagues, familiarise yourself with the school and gather important information about the school day.

If for any reason you are going to be late, please let us know and we will contact the school on your behalf.

Planning and preparation of work

We have an excellent range of teaching resources available which offer to all candidates. Every branch has a dedicated Resource Library and there is also an extensive range of materials available online.

Your education consultant will let you know which year group within the school you will be teaching and you will be expected to arrive with relevant teaching material. Some schools will provide pre-set work, planned in detail, whilst others expect the supply teacher to use their own resources. If you are unsure, please ask your education consultant.

At the end of the assignment

At the end of the day all candidates should allow adequate time to tidy up and complete any marking required. You should not leave the building until every child in your care has left. All schools expect supply staff to mark any work which they have carried out during the day.
